What Makes Christian Life Groups So Effective?

Christian Life is a proven method for many because of a few simple reasons.

Beyond Discussion

Christ's apostles were certainly known to engage in lively discussion. But when it came to demonstrating charity, they were well ahead of the curve in walking the talk. CL is based on that kind of soul-inspiring involvement and direction. It's a positive, powerful way for young people to grow in love with the faith by learning it... by living it. And that sort of commitment to growth is well beyond the discourse stage.

CL helps students develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Catholic faith. Indeed, it's often the first step on the life-long search, rooted in love, for the Truth. The enthusiastic exploration of Christ's divine plan in and for our lives is a part of this search. With it, we become whole. And CL has made the implementation of the search beautifully simple and wholly enjoyable.

The Power of The Group

Something astonishing happens in a CL Group. And to it. Something that galvanizes it from a get-together into a force of love and faith. It builds naturally and organically, person to person. It's a fairly informal gathering shaped by gospel reflections, peer-to-peer discussions, guest speakers and introspective self examination. The use of engaging and proven materials is a part of it, as is the all-important transformation of knowledge into effective action. But it becomes much more than these elements as the young people transform themselves and society.

Meetings are usually an hour or two. Groups typically form around the common-ground experiences of upper high school, college age, or young professionals, coed or single gender, and they may choose to spread their faith together through missions. Adult mentors guide and support them in meetings that are structured but flexible with plenty of creative avenues. The power of the group is exciting to experience, and it sustains and perpetuates itself as the members grow in their faith.

Packaged for Attraction

Exceptional and exciting materials are a great catalyst for doing, not just discussion. The CL packaged meeting components are designed to absorb and fully engage. Included are a series of study guides, movie reviews, social and apostolic activities for groups of young people to help them learn and live their faith and online resourced made available. Reviewing engaging films and applying a Catholic perspective to various lessons (or lack of them) put forth in those films can stoke emotions and cause deep reflection.

Engaging, compelling topics that range from lying to underage drinking to character defamation have been compared to a GPS that leads young people into their faith. Such formatted group sessions help them encounter Christ in conversation, prayer, sacraments, and out in the world.
